Course description:

This degree is aimed at those primarily interested in advanced professional study involving the reflection on, development of, or evaluation of, practice. It comprises two years of coursework followed by supervised research culminating in a thesis of approximately 50,000 words. Coursework comprises two year long subjects that enable advanced level study of professional issues; each requires a 15,000 word essay. The thesis is often in an applied area and allows the researcher to make an intensive investigation in a professional field - usually a field in which they are personally engaged, and of which they have substantial experience. Areas of research expertise include: adult learning, applied linguistics, cross-cultural communication, innovative curriculum and effective classrooms, e-learning pedagogies, leadership and management, international education and globalisation, science and mathematics education, policy research and evaluation, psychology and educational practice, student advocacy and wellbeing, and holistic education.

Entry requirements:

Applicants must have completed an Australian master's degree or bachelor's degree with honours at H1 or H2A level, or approved international equivalent, plus at least three years of relevant professional experience. Applicants are also required to provide evidence of research expertise. The English language requirements are as follows: IELTS: 6.5 (minimum band score of 6.0); TOEFL(computer based): 233 (minimum score of 5 in essay writing); TOEFL(paper based): 575 (score of 5 or better in the Test of Written English); TOEFL(internet based): 88 (individual score not less than 22); La Trobe University Language centre: English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at postgraduate level.

Students must then send a copy of the application form, all supporting documentation (summary of research proposal, evidence of English language proficiency, etc.) and the A$80 non-refundable application fee to: La Trobe International, La Trobe University, Victoria 3086, Australia.
